This is known as SELF HEAL, as it has a history, especially in China of a lot of herbal remedies, apart from being an attractive looking plant. 

Prunella vulgaris is a fibrous rooted, herbaceous plant and grows to a height of about 2 feet. 

Good as a tea, use for boils and wounds. Use as a mouthwash for ulcers or as ointment for cold sores.  As a tea it is taken for heart problems. Reduces blood pressure, and tumours.  

Used in Western medicine for burns, sores, sore throat, bruises, mouth inflammations and haemorrhoids.   Nettle stings and insect bites. Acts as a diurtic which help heal tumours. Decoction from leaves treats internal bleeding. Anti inflammatory and anti- allergic properties.

Chinese use it for liver ailments, like jaundice and hepatitus and an anti cancer drug also as a tonic.  Good for lumps in neck and swollen glands.

The leaves can be eaten as a substitute for spinach or for soups salads and stews.
