Primula Veris. Cowslip.
This threatened wildflower. 25 seeds Primula Veris. Cowslip.
Sowing: Sow seeds in late spring/early summer or late summer/autumn. Primula seeds need a period of cold and damp to enable them to germinate. Sow from June onwards on a surface of seed compost, cover with grit and keep in a shaded cold-frame or cool glasshouse. Sow seed 2.5cm (1in) apart in trays or cells containing seed compost. Sow in not more than 16c. Germination takes about 3-6 weeks.
They can also be grown in warmer times. But you have to create dormancy and winter. Place seeds in between dampened kitchen roll and put in plastic bag. Place in fridge about 4c. After two weeks they should start sprouting in the fridge.Remove as soon as the seedlings appear and return the rest to the fridge.
This is rare in Britain now as a result of intensive farming but it is making a comeback. They provide early nectar for bees. Plant in partially shaded areas and below shrubs and trees on the edges of woods or lawns
Please note that all returns must be sent the next day after receiving the seeds as under the Perishable Goods Act, seeds can perish unless kept in the right conditions.
