Juniperus Virginiana, very similar to Common Juniper, Juniperus Communcis.
Native of America . Berries are used to flavour Gin. .

easy to germinate but takes longer than normal conifers. Needs cold stratification.
Soak 24 hours and put into air tight zip lock bag without compost but make sure they are never dry for 12 weeks. Dont be too waterlogged either. Just shake after soaking and keep in bag.
In 12 weeks they are ready to germinate. This is the best way to germinate these seeds as any other way will not break dormancy.
Use good potting compost in seed trays or plug trays - firm the compost and place the seeds on the surface. Cover with vermiculit or a fine layer of seived compost Gentle watering in room temperature which will germinate the seeds in a few weeks from sowing.
Follow with a gentle watering and keep them at room temperature. Germination will begin a few weeks from sowing. The seedlings are reasonably robust and trouble free and usually grow to a height of between 5 and 10 cm in the first growing season depending on the sowing date and cultural techniques.
